Sylmara Interior

I feel I haven't introduced Sylmara properly, she is a 26ft wooden folk boat built in Sweden in 1952.Inside she is full of beautiful little details, lots of hand painted tiles on the walls and lots of unique hand carvings which all add to her charm. So lets have a little look around......

I love these carvings especially, I am not too sure what the influence is, I think they look slighty Egyptian. What do you think?

Both Simon and myself enjoy painting so I think we should each paint a little unique tile of our own to put up on her walls and add to her history.

Re think - change of plan

So much has happened since I last blogged , it is now February and although we spent a lush summer living on I.R.I.S on the marina, winter soon followed as did the cold weather. Living on a ninety year old wooden boat, as you can imagine was getting quite damp with a few leaks appearing. Mainly in our bunk , anyone who sails will know how horrible it is to sleep in a cold , wet bed!

So we succumbed and we moved onto the land and found ourselves a lovely flat which has an amazing sea view which we can see Sylmara from the window. So we have the best of both worlds.

So if we had stuck to our original plan we would be working our way through the canals in France, on our way to Venice. So we are still in the Uk , Sylmara was in no way ready for us to take such a voyage on her and neither were we. We hadnt saved any money torwards our trip and still haven't sailed her properly! After a chat me and Simon decided to postpone our trip , and not rush getting the boat ready and to do the job properly. Which I think has been the best idea for both of us, neither of us have had a proper home for about year due to moving about so finding a flat together was such a appealing idea. I personally have never lived with a boyfriend before so it has been quite exciting and big step in our relationship. Happily we love living together and seem to muddle along very nicely together.

Currently we are living in Brixham in Devon but we are thinking of re locating. Brixham is a beautiful place to live but very limited on jobs and opportunities, being such a tourist seasonal town. We have discussed moving to Falmouth, in Cornwall which I think could be a really good idea. Simon can enrol in the boat building college and I can hopefully find a nice job which I enjoy. I have also looked into volunteering at the Martime museum which could be great. Falmouth is quite an arty town especially with the university there, I have been getting back into my art and painting a lot more recently so that could be something else to pursue. And obviously we can take out little boat with us too!

The plan at the moment is too get Sylmara ready to live aboard this summer or to stay in the flat. If we have a summer as good as last year living on board will be quite manageable. We both love out flat but are finding rent very exspensive and we need really want to start saving.

So either way we are hoping to move to Falmouth mid summer or maybe a bit later in the year. There are quite few sailing events that we want to take part in and we would also like to do a little sailing trip to Southern Ireland. So we have lots to think about , discuss and look forward too!
